User Centered Organizations

Org Chart 2.0: Built for User Experience Systems describes new business organizational structures where the user experience is thought about throughout the groups instead of the many time-honored and well-established organization charts we see today. I think large, established companies would find it hard to adjust and change their structure but I could definitely see smaller companies or startups adopting a user experience driven organization.

Good Morning

The glo Pillow, an alternative to the traditional alarm clock, uses an LED fabric substrate below the surface to wake the user using light. 40 minutes before the pre-set alarm time the pillow begins to glow and gently brings the user out of sleep. This natural waking process helps to set the circadian rhythm or “body clock” and results in more healthy sleep/wake patterns.

Samsung’s Visual Gesture Interaction Patent

Samsung recently filed a patent for visual gestures with a cell phone. Unlike the iPhone where the gestures take place on the touch screen, the patent uses the phone’s built in camera to recognize preset motions. While it’s a clever idea, imagine seeing someone “speaking” sign language to their phone. Interacting with the phone this way may seem strange in public and it remains to be seen how users will react to this feature if it ever makes it onto an actual phone.
